This photograph was taken within the first few days of a month and a half long adventure. An incredible adventure… The BEST adventure. My London photos are special because out of every big city I’ve visited I feel like I got to know London best. I had the chance to wander and get lost by myself, visit galleries filled with Irving Penn and old Vogue photographs - not to mention the glut of other important pieces of art scattered in buildings around the city… Castles. And history. And perhaps most importantly - greasy pub food with some of my favourite people. Mm.

A Rooftop in Rome

This diptych is a more obvious representation of the idea that where architecture is humans have been (and often still are). We are, after all, an extension of what we create. This seems like a perfect series to take on given the presence of my two favourite things to photograph - humans and architecture.

Also, I miss you Rome. I would like to come see you.

For about a year now I have been taking pictures of rooftops. There's something about them that I love. Rooftops overlook cities and towns and people that exist in them. But from these rooftops there are no people. All the people have died. They have... And now, from here, there are only remnants of what life has created.

I wanted to pair this picture with a portrait of similar style, because of course, where architecture is life was (and often still is as well). But the portrait I chose took an unexpected turn with too much colour and not enough grainy greys. Also, it's way too early in the morning and I need sleep. So. Said portrait will have to wait.

City Dwellers

As city dwellers, we often find ourselves in the unique position of mass anonymity. Whether walking down the street, riding on the subway, or waiting in line, all we are able to discern about the other members of the throng is what they wear on their faces. In this series, I attempt to visualize the internal despondence, alienation, and frustration that lie beneath these façades of expression.

After an entire day of setting up - building frames, measuring walls, hammering nails, etc., my fellow graduates and I have managed to make something kind-of-alright of the Whippersnapper gallery. Opening night is tomorrow and I'm pretty excited. A lot of friends, family and strangers will be there who I cannot wait to see... I also have some new images in the gallery that I will wait to post on here until after the show. Does that make you eager to come? It shouuuld!

Balloons and Throw Up

When dealing with balloons and photographs you have to be VERY careful, or else you will end up with a terrible cliche of woman frolicking around in field with colourful balloons. Right?

Not to say that every balloon idea is hopeless. One of my favourite photographers ever (Tim Walker) uses balloons quite well. However, I am not Tim Walker and my heart has decided to put an end to this portfolio. At least for right now.

This picture was supposed to be part of my final portfolio for school (which will be appearing at the Whipper Snapper gallery on April 1-14th) - Kind of a big deal. I love this photo but the rest of them are lacking something. Or they have too many balloons, which I cannot deal with right now. heh.

I've also been listening to Mumford & Sons latest album "Sigh No More" Which is AMAZING. I'm pretty sure too much magical folk music makes for too many pictures of magical people and flowers. That makes sense.
